Andy Murray dished out high praise for Austria’s Gerald Melzer after defeating the 26-year-old at the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open, 7-6(6), 7-5. Murray says he has never played or even practiced with the younger brother of Jurgen Melzer, but he said on court during his post-match interview that he was very impressed with the way Melzer played.

“He played great, great tennis,” said Murray. “He was dominating large points of the match and dictating lots of the points… if he plays like that this year he is going to keep moving higher and higher in the rankings.”

Melzer, who won four Challenger titles last season, owns an 8-20 record at the ATP level but he did finish a season inside the ATP’s Top 100 for the first time in 2016. Jurgen Melzer reached a career-high ranking of No.8 in 2011.

Murray moves on to face Nicolas Almagro in the quarterfinals. The World No.1 is currently riding a 26-match win streak.
