When life knocks us around, it's comforting to see a caring presence lend a helping hand.

When Jo-Wilfried Tsonga saw a ball girl pained and tearful after being struck in the face by a shot, he stopped play and stepped up with a supporting shoulder.

Video: Tsonga Calls for Crowd Control

Watch as Tsonga tries to comfort the ball girl in distress before taking her arm to lead her off court for treatment.

Afterward, Tsonga said he was just trying to help, describing his action as "nothing special."

"To be honest, I didn't do anything special," Tsonga said. "I realized she had a real problem. I just came to her and tried to help her to go off the court. And that's it. Nothing special, to be honest."

See Tsonga recount the third-set incident about two minutes into this video interview:

Tsonga returned to action wrapping up a 7-5, 6-1, 6-4 win over Australian Omar Jasika to set up an Australian Open third-round match with fellow Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

Should the seeds advance, Tsonga would face seventh-seeded Kei Nishikori for a spot in the quarterfinals.
