Academy Award nominations were already decided before Grigor Dimitrov's quarterfinal clash with Alexandr Dolgopolov in Sydney.

It's a pity because Dimitrov delivered a performance of extremes that showed his class in several categories.

Dimitrov's stretched forehand flick down the line in the video above may well be the shot of the tournament.

It preceded this epic smash with the mangled racquet boomeranging back at the Bulgarian's face, a cautionary lesson for amateur racquet smashers everywhere.

On a day when he was both good and bad, Dimitrov was also lucky earning a third-set break with this net-cord winner.

Rain suspended play with Dimitrov holding a 4-6, 6-3, 4-2 lead over Dolgopolov. The match will resume on Friday with more theatrics to follow.
