Second Serve

Pablo Carreno Busta dazzled when he scurried and knocked off this brilliant defensive ‘tweener on Monday against Nick Kyrgios, but it wasn’t enough to get him the point.

In fact, there was very little Carreno Busta could do all day against the pinpoint power serving of the 20-year-old Aussie.

Kyrgios rained down 16 aces and saved the only break point he faced against Carreno Busta to set up a second-round encounter with Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay.

Kyrgios says he’s watched Cuevas play in the past and been impressed.

“I've watched him play,” said Kyrgios. “I've always been pretty impressed by him. I think he's a great athlete. He makes a lot of balls, he competes every point. He's more than capable of doing some damage these weeks. I think the Grand Slams, best-of-five suit him. I know what type of tennis I need to play. He's going to go out there, he knows what he needs to do. We're just going to go out there and just compete.”
