Serena Williams is not just the World No. 1 women’s tennis player. She’s also a fashion designer, actress, and certified nail technician.
Now she’s adding advice columnist to her long resume.
More: Serena Easily Reaches Melbourne Fourth Round
In the newest issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine, the reigning Australian Open champion answers fans’ questions on love and relationships.
Though Williams herself is supposedly currently single, she’s been linked in the past to Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, rapper Drake, and her current coach Patrick Mouratoglou. Williams gives advice on how to date someone who isn’t into sports, dress for a date, and what actually does “Netflix and chill” mean.
When asked by a reader going by the name “Track Star” who says, “I’m really sporty, and my boyfriend's just…not. Any ideas on how we can bridge the gap and get active?”,
Williams responds, “Suggest doing lightly sporty things, such as walking, and stress the importance of a healthy lifestyle. And think of activities that you can do with your man.”
"Doubtful Debbie" asks, "Sometimes when I begin dating a new guy, I start doubt ing myself and feel my initial confidence
(which helped snag him in the first place!) slip away. How do I keep up my self- esteem?"
Serena tells her to look within for the answer.
"First you need to identify where the self-doubt is coming from," Williams says. "I think that goes back to always being yourself from the beginning. Be confident of your inner strength and beauty, and that will be reflected on the outside. My mom always taught my sisters and me to be ourselves and to stay true to who we are."
A reader with the moniker “Age of Innocence” asks, “I've always thought that "Netflix and chill" really meant watching Netflix and chilling. Am I naive?”
Serena’s response?
“I have to tell you, I thought the same exact thing. When I say "Netflix and chill," that's what
I mean. I guess you and I are just old-fashioned—if you can call Netflix old-fashioned!”
Finally, Serena gets back to tennis with this question when asked what tennis terms she applies to relationships.
“Love; advantage Williams; game, set, match; and championship,” says Williams.
All words we are likely to hear more of about Williams on the tennis court this year.
