After completing a strong two-week stint in Doha and Dubai that ended with a loss to Barbora Krejcikova in the final at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Iga Swiatek took to Twitter to remind fans that she is just human.
It’s an important distinction to make as it’s easy to interpret Swiatek’s otherworldly domination of the WTA tour as, well, Goddess-like.
Not the case, says the World No.1, who took to Twitter to tell fans she is most certainly not a robot.
“These last few weeks were intense, and challenging, but we did a lot of good work and progress,” Swiatek said in her post. “I enjoyed tournament in Doha and Dubai and even though I lost the final (huge congrats Barbora) my level was good despite the infection and I gave it all I could at the moment.
“I can see that some of you have higher expectations of me but well… I’m just human. I will keep my standards high, I will enjoy my time on tour and keep working hard. At the end of the day that is all I can control – my effort and engagement.”
Swiatek is doing an excellent job of maintaining her mental health and not letting expectations place too much of a burden on her. She used the hashtags #marathonnotaspring and #notarobot to stress that she is taking the long view on the season, and not stressing over losses.
The Pole is 12-3 on the young season, with a title in Doha. She is 4485 points ahead of No.2-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in the WTA rankings as she begins her 48th week at No.1. Clearly there is no need to panic…
