Dominic Thiem’s comeback has been delayed – but hopefully not for long. The Australian, who dropped 21 spots to No.37 in Monday’s rankings, has been forced to pull out of the 2022 Cordoba Open draw. Thiem said he had a hand injury that is unrelated to his wrist.

"In the last days, I suffered a minor injury between my knuckles, a little strain of my ligament,” the 2020 US Open champion said. “The positive thing is the wrist is perfectly fine, but I'm suffering pain in my hand and also lacking practice, so I have to pull out. I'm very sad, but I'm going to come back once I'm 100 per cent fit, and thank you so much for the great and warm welcome I had here in Cordoba."
The former World No.3, a 17-time ATP titlist, has not played since before Wimbledon, when he originally injured his wrist at Mallorca last June.
Thiem’s status for next week’s Argentina Open in Buenos Aires is not clear at the moment.
