Simona Halep has hired David Goffin’s former coach Thierry Van Cleemput as her new coach, according to WTA Insider.
The Belgian worked with Goffin from 2014 to 2019, but parted ways with his coach at this year’s Australian Open. Under Van Cleemput, Goffin made his Top 10 debut in 2017 and became the first man from Belgium to achieve the feat.
He reached as high as No.7 in the world but the 28-year-old Goffin currently ranks 28.
Halep parted ways with Darren Cahill in November of 2018 and had planned to play coachless throughout the spring. But she made a connection with Van Cleemput in Melbourne and told WTA Insider that she’ll be with her new coach at the Qatar Total Open in Doha when the event begins on February 11th.
Halep is currently ranked third in the world, 1448 points behind World No.1 Naomi Osaka.
