Great Britain’s Emma Raducanu’s post-season accolades keep rolling in. The 19-year-old star, who won the US Open on her debut from qualifying in 2021, has been named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. She is the third WTA player to win the award in its 67-year history.

Ann Jones (1969) and Virginia Wade (1977) have previously won the award.

Two other British men – Andy Murray (2013, 2015, 2016) and Greg Rudedski (1997), have won the award.

Raducanu climbed from 343 in the world to 19 in the rankings thanks to her breakout season. She won all 20 sets she played at the US Open and became the first player to win a Grand Slam singles title from qualifying.

Previously, no other WTA player had won her first major title in less than four Grand Slam main draw appearances. Raducanu won the US Open in just her second major appearance.
