Karolina Pliskova will miss the Australian swing. The World No.4 has injured her right hand and will miss significant time.
"Unfortunately I hurt my right hand in practice yesterday and I won't be able to play in Adelaide, Sydney and Australian Open this year," she said in a statement. "I am sad not being able to start my season in Australia and I will miss my Australian fans very much."
Pliskova’s streak of 35 consecutive Grand Slam main draw appearances will come to an end. It was tied for fourth-longest among active WTA players.
The 29-year-old had not missed a main draw at a Slam since the 2012 US Open.
