Wozniacki: Andreescu Reminiscent of Hall of Famer
NEW YORK—Former world No. 1
Caroline Wozniacki
has high praise for
Bianca Andreescu
.
The 19-year-old Canadian defeated Wozniacki for the second time this season, 6-4, 6-4, surging into her first Grand Slam fourth round at the US Open
—and earning comparisons to a former world No. 1 player

Andreescu Rolls Into US Open Round of 16
Two-time US Open finalist Wozniacki sees signs of a Hall of Famer—three-time US Open champion
Kim Clijsters
—in the talented Andreescu's game.
"I think the one that I can most compare her game to would probably be Kim back in the day, Clijsters," said Wozniacki, who lost to Andreescu by the identical score in Auckland last January. "I think because she moves well and she can stretch out and get to some balls and also play the aggressive and using the angles."
Clijsters defeated Wozniacki, 7-5, 6-3, in the 2009 US Open final.
The Australian Open champion said Andreescu's forcing forehand, skill creating angles and movement are all reminiscent of Clijsters.
"Obviously she prefers the forehand just like Kim," Wozniacki said. "But she can move around the backhand and put the angle on it, so I think if I were to kind of compare to someone I know, everyone has their own style, but for me, playing her, it's a little bit brings me back to when I played Kim."
Informed of the comparison, Andreescu revealed she was a big Clijsters fan growing up— and believes she shares a similar style.
"I actually looked up to her a lot while I was just coming up, when I started playing tennis," Andreescu said. "So that's really nice to hear from other players, because I think my game is pretty similar to hers. Not as good yet.
"But, yeah, she's an incredible fighter. She's very solid all around. She can volley, she can slice, dropshot. And she's very consistent, as well. She chooses her targets and she has a very good serve and return. She's very strong mentally."
