Since serving a 15-month doping suspension, Maria Sharapova has played seven Grand Slam tournaments reaching one quarterfinal in that span.
The five-time Grand Slam champion will try to change her fortunes in Flushing Meadows working with a new coach.
More: Barty Shatters Sharapova
Sharapova said she will work with veteran Riccardo Piatti at the US Open this month.
"It's still a work in progress," Sharapova said of her coaching situation. "But Riccardo will be with me in New York."
The former world No. 1, who split with coach Thomas Hogstedt earlier this year, was coached by hitting partner Alex Kuznetsov in Cincinnati this week where she fell to reigning Roland Garros champion Ash Barty, 6-4, 6-1, in the second round.
The 32-year-old Russian spent some time working with Piatti at his training camp earlier in the summer. Piatti previously coached Milos Raonic and Richard Gasquet, among many other pros.
"I just crashed his summer camp in Elba," Sharapova said. "I didn't know Elba existed until I knew he was there."
The world No. 97 has failed to survive the US Open round of 16 in her last three appearances in New York. Sharapova ruled out the prospect of playing the WTA tournament in the Bronx next week and plans to play practice sets in advance of the season's final Grand Slam.
"I still have to continue to look to play a few more practice matches," Sharapova said. "You know, I feel there is a lot of things I want to improve. Yeah, it's endless."
