Nadal On Rogers Cup Return

Rafael Nadal could meet the grudge-match winner, but he's focused solely on his Toronto opener.

The top-seeded Nadal has a first-round bye and will meet either American Jared Donaldson or Frenchman Benoit Paire in round two of his Rogers Cup return.

If Nadal reaches the round of 16 he could play the winner of the Rogers Cup grudge match between Stan Wawrinka and 16th-seeded Nick Kyrgios.

In their last Rogers Cup clash, Wawrinka and Kyrgios nearly came to blows in the locker room after Kyrgios made a crude remark about Wawrinka's girlfriend, WTA pro Donna Vekic, that on-court microphones picked up.

In his first tournament since falling to Novak Djokovic in an epic Wimbledon semifinal, Nadal isn't thinking too far ahead.

"I cannot think about Wawrinka, Kyrgios, Joao (Sousa) before playing Benoit or a qualifier," Nadal told the media in Toronto. "I know the first round is going to be a tough battle. But watching the full draw doesn’t distract me from being focused on that first round.

"I like to see the confrontations that are in the first round. There are a couple of very interesting ones in my opinion, and that’s it. I always take it match by match, that’s what I’ve done all my life."
