Second Serve

Everything went right for Kei Nishikori on Friday night in his first career victory over Rafael Nadal. Except this. Oh, and wasn’t this botch of a routine drop shot attempt glorious? That’s the kind of miss that would shatter the confidence of mere mortals, but Nishikori, in god mode for most of his 6-2, 6-4 clampdown over Rafael Nadal, soldiered on bravely, whipping winners with routine alacrity.

Japan’s No. 1 was so good that he probably doesn’t mind that the video above was his most memorable shot of the evening. Neither do we.

Nishikori will face Andy Murray on Saturday in the Rogers Cup semis.
