We knew when Alexandr Dolgopolov drew Grigor Dimitrov in the first round of this week’s Rogers Cup in Montreal, some explosive shotmaking would be on display. And… we were right (though maybe "surgical" or "delicate" might be a better adjective than "explosive."

Dimitrov won the match, 6-4, 7-5, to set up a second-round encounter with Jack Sock, but Dolgopolov took hot shot honors with the bit of wizardry you’re seeing in the above video.

The Ukranian’s dropper lands just inside the sideline, bites the gritty hard court, then does a hard left turn to land outside of the doubles alley for a clean, perplexing winner. It’s almost as if Dolgopolov had the ball on a string.
