World No. 1 Iga Swiatek, who defeated Aryna Sabalenka to capture her fourth consecutive championship in Stuttgart yesterday, owns a 2,136 point lead over Badosa in the rankings.
Badosa joins Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, Conchita Martínez and Garbiñe Muguruza as the fourth Spanish woman to crack the Top 2.
It's been a rapid rise for Badosa, who finished the 2020 season ranked No. 70 and won the first two titles of her career in Belgrade and Indian Wells last season.
"Never has a Monday felt so good," Badosa posted on Instagram. "Happy for the road travelled and overcome. It's taken a lot but in the end, it was all worth it.
"Grateful to be living my dream. I don't usually post rankings but this one I was especially looking forward to 🤩 #happymonday."
