Second Serve

Novak Djokovic pulled out the win on Tuesday in his second-round match with Gilles Simon, but wow, was this point ever sensational for the Frenchman? Simon finishes a wild, cat-and-mouse encounter with a pair of touch shots to die for.

The first, a dipping forehand that was a tactical play, intended to make Djokovic volley from below net level. The second, a perfect backhand lob that Djokovic could only chase in distress.

Simon would go up by a break in the third set and actually serve for the match, but Djokovic proved to be too tough. He broke back and went on to victory, his 11th consecutive win against Simon.

But Novak better beware against Simon the next time they meet. The last two of those eleven consecutive losses have gone the distance, including the pair’s memorable encounter at the Australian Open in 2016 that saw Simon befuddle Djokovic for much of the match.
