Garcia is aiming to return to tournament tennis in Madrid, starting May 6th.
The 23-year-old French woman said inflammation of the sciatic nerve is forcing her to take a break from tennis.
Garcia, who partnered Kristina Mladenovic to win the 2016 Roland Garros doubles championship, said she's been suffering back issues since the 2016 US Open.
"It is for this reason that I have already reduced the number of competitions played in singles and doubles in 2017," said Garcia, who has also opted out of Fed Cup competition in an effort to regain her health.
