The wild finish at the Monte Carlo Masters didn't shake up the Top 4 in the latest ATP rankings per se, but it did a lot to the back half of the Top 10 as well as re-establishing Stanislas Wawrinka.
Wawrinka defeated fellow Swiss Roger Federer in the final on Sunday, his first title since winning the Australian Open in late January and his third crown this season.
He was booted in the Monte Carlo quarterfinals a year ago, allowing for a significant point gain of 820 this year, which keeps him 775 points ahead of Federer for the No. 3 spot in the world. A year ago at this juncture, Wawrinka was 16-8. Sunday, he improved to 20-3.
David Ferrer regained No. 5 in the world, passing Tomas Berdych by 190 points. Ferrer upset Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals.
At the back end of the Top 10, Milos Raonic moved up to a career-best No. 9, with John Isner back to 10th as Richard Gasquet fell two spots to drop out of the Top 10.
Also climbing in the rankings was Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, on the strength of his quarterfinal performance at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters. The Spaniard was 53 in the world before his run to the Casablanca title two weeks ago, but he comes in at 32 this week, thanks to an eight-match winning streak that was finally snapped by Novak Djokovic in Monte-Carlo.
18-year-old Aussie Nick Kyrgios also made waves this week, rising 50 spots in the rankings to become the only teenager inside the ATP's top 200 after winning the Sarasota Challenger in Florida.
