NEW YORK—Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine not only hit home for Dayana Yastremska.
It destroyed her home.
Ukrainian pro Yastremska shared what’s left of her family’s apartment on the Black Sea port of Odesa after a Russian missile strike devastated her building.
In a haunting image she posted on social media, one of the only Yastremska possession to survive the aerial assault was an official Roland Garros towel left shredded by the horrific attack.
“This is what the ‘Russian world’ looks like. A direct hit by a Kalibr cruise missile,” Yastremska posted on Instagram. “A Russian missile destroyed our apartment in Odesa.
“The only thing that survived was a Roland Garros towel.”
Yastremska called out both the WTA and ITF for inaction.
“Look at these images through our eyes,” Yastremska wrote tagging the tennis governing bodies. “This is the true meaning of your ‘neutrality” from the Ukrainian side of the court.”
Russian athletes should be banned from all global competitions until the war is stopped.
