2028 Olympic Tennis Begins Three Days After Wimbledon Men’s Final: Everything you need to know about the schedule

There will be a mad scramble after Wimbledon in 2028. The ITF announced the dates for 2028’s Olympic tennis event in Los Angeles, and the competition will begin on the Wednesday after the Championships conclude in London. 

To put that in perspective, the North American hard swing hasn’t even started this year, and we are eleven days clear of the Wimbledon men’s singles final. 

Naturally, critics see the already jam-packed ATP and WTA schedules, but the turnaround isn’t going to be horrific for most players. By Tuesday at Wimbledon (July 10, 2028), the singles draw will have already been whittled down to eight men and eight women, which means a firm majority of competing Olympic tennis players will have more than a week to get to Los Angeles and begin their training. 

There will be some changes to Olympic tennis in 2028. The mixed doubles competition will take place over two days, with two rounds completed on Day 1 and the rest the following day. 

Five days after the Opening Ceremony, which will take place during men’s semifinal day at Wimbledon, a two-day Olympic Mixed Doubles competition will commence. On Thursday July 20, the 64-player men’s and women’s singles draw will begin their competition, along with the mixed semis and finals. 

The 2028 Olympic Tennis Event expands from nine to ten days overall, and will be held from Wednesday 19 until Friday 28 July 2028. 

The event will be played at Carson Courts in the Carson Zone, a 20-minute drive from downtown Los Angeles, or 30 to Santa Monica if you are so inclined. The facility, which was home to UTS Los Angeles in 2023, will feature eleven outdoor hard courts: a 10,000-capacity permanent Centre Court; two temporary show courts – Court 1 and Court 2 – and eight outside courts. 

The other sports to be featured in Carson are archery, rugby sevens, track cycling and field hockey. 

Per the ITF, the draw sizes for the five events remain the same: men’s/women’s singles (64 players), men’s/women’s doubles (32 teams) and mixed doubles (16 teams). Nations can have up to four players in singles, two teams in doubles and one team in mixed doubles.

The medal matches for the men’s and women’s singles and men’s and women’s doubles will be held on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 July.

Entries are also based on the ATP and WTA rankings of Monday 12 June 2028 (the day after the conclusion of 2028 Roland Garros).
