Clinical Djokovic Rips Past Tsitsipas in Well Under Two Hours

Novak Djokovic’s quest for a 25th major and 8th Wimbledon title remained intact – and in style – on Wednesday as the Serbian rocked past Stefanos Tsitsipas in decisive fashion, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 38 minutes.

“He is absolutely seeing it like a baseball,” said Andy Roddick who compared Djokovic’s form to a video game as he neared the finish line in rapid fashion.

“Space Invaders,” added John McEnroe, revealing his age.

It was out of this world, watching the 39-year-old pick Tsitsipas apart in under two hours, the 24-time major champion getting better as the match progressed.

Djokovic saved all five break points he faced, ripped 33 winners and committed just seven unforced errors.

With his win Djokovic became one of six men to reach the third round of Wimbledon at the age of 39, and the first to do it since Roger Federer in 2021.

“Obviously you feel very happy and satisfied and joyful on the court when you’re playing this way,” Djokovic said.

He even had time for some fun.

During a changeover he put a scare into a ball girl who was cutting a loose thread off of his Lacoste top. As Djokovic pretended to be cut the woman initially reeled in shock before recognizing that she’d been duped.

Classic Djoker in every sense of the word.

“I’m sorry if I scared her,” Djokovic later said. “It was probably not that great of a joke, I guess.”

Djokovic stretched his winning streak to 12 over Tsitsipas and improved to 104-13 lifetime at Wimbledon and 406 and 57 at the majors.

With his next Wimbledon win, Djokovic will tie Roger Federer at the top of Wimbledon’s all-time men’s singles match win list.

He will face Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in the third round – the pair have never met.
