Nick Kyrgios capped a declarative Davis Cup victory over John Isner with a declaration of identity.

Kyrgios, whose 7-5, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) conquest of Isner gave Australia a commanding 2-0 lead over the United States in Brisbane, says he’s trying to commit to compete for every point.

“I’m trying to knuckle down and compete for every point and that’s something I haven’t always done in the past,’’ Kyrgios told the media in Brisbane.

While Kyrgios strives to channel captain Lleyton Hewitt’s warrior mode mentality, he concedes you will still see the combustible Nick on court.

“I still am very emotional out there,” Kyrgios said. “I still challenge the umpire and still say what I think. I still throw my racquet and still swear, but I will compete for every point.

“I think I’m getting there. I’m only human. People tend to forget I’m only 21.’’
