Hewitt: ATP Must Act on Gimelstob

Lleyton Hewitt has called on the ATP to take action in the aftermath of Justin Gimelstob’s recent assault arrest in Los Angeles.The 41-year-old Gimelstob, a Tennis Channel analyst and former coach of John Isner, is a member of the ATP Board of Directors.More: Gimelstob Arrested For Alleged Halloween AssaultAustralian Davis Cup captain Hewitt tweeted a link of a New York Post report on Gimelstob’s arrest captioned “The ATP World Tour must lead by example and do something about this.”
Gimelstob was initially elected to the ATP board in 2008.The Santa Monica, California resident surrendered to police in West Los Angeles on Wednesday and was booked on a felony battery charge for the Halloween night attack.In a bizarre story, Gimelstob, reportedly dressed as a pilot from the film Top Gun, snuck up behind venture capitalist Randall Kaplan, who was walking with his wife and and two-year-old daughter in Los Angeles at about 6:30 on Halloween night.Gimelstob allegedly attacked Kaplan from behind striking him 50 times and threatening to kill him, Kaplan told police.The assault left Kaplan with “large contusions and bruises on my face,” as well as a possible concussion, The Los Angeles Times reports.Gimelstob was not part of Tennis Channel’s ATP Finals coverage last week.Photo credit: Mark Peterson/Corleve]]>The @ATPWorldTour must lead by example and do something about this. pic.twitter.com/EuTXwHbJOS
