Not that he needs it, but Roger Federer added another record to his lengthy resume on Tuesday night.
The No. 3 player in the world notched his 210th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 victory by defeating Juan Ignacio Chela 7-6(7), 6-3 at the Rogers Cup in Toronto, pushing him past Andre Agassi on the all-time win list.
Federer is 210-65 all-time in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 action, a .764 winning percentage. Agassi is a step behind at 209-73, a .741 winning percentage. Federer is after his 17th ATP World Tour title.
This is his first tournament ranked No. 3 since the 2003 Tennis Masters Cup in Houston. He won that by defeating Agassi in the championship match. Three of the top five players on the ATP 1000 career win list are active.
Following Federer and Agassi are #3 Pete Sampras – 190-70 (.731); #4 Rafael Nadal 180-35 (.837); and #5 Andy Roddick 141-57 (.712). Federer, who turned 29 on Sunday, will take on either Michael Llodra or Nicolas Almagro in the next round of the Rogers Cup.
