American
John Isner

climbed to a career-best ranking of No. 13 in the world on Monday, while fellow American Andy Roddick plunged ouside the Top 25 for the first time in nearly 11 years.

Isner was idle last week, but in the news plenty thanks to his stunning upset of Roger Federer

in the United States ’ win over Switzerland in the countries’ first-round Davis Cup clash in Switzerland .

Isner is 4-2 on the year and is the top seed in Memphis beginning today.

Roddick lost in the quarterfinals at San Jose against eventual finalist Denis Istomin

to fall to 2-2 on the year.

A year ago, he won Memphis , a 500-point victory, and the early-round exit in 2012 saw his points plunge.  He dropped 10 slots to 27th, his first time outside the Top 25 since August 13, 2001.

To put that time frame in perspective, on August 13, 2001, the top five players in the world were Gustavo Kuerten, Andre Agassi, Marat Safin, Lleyton Hewitt and Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Istomin rose 12 spots to No. 49 with his second-place finish at San Jose .

There were no changes in the men’s top 10, but there were several in the Top 20.

Gael Monfils fell to 14th, Richard Gasquet moved up to 15th and Japan’s Kei Nishikori

climbed to a career-best 17th despite being idle.

The Australian Open semifinalist is the highest-ranked Japanese male tennis player ever.

Meanwhile, injured Robin Soderling

of Sweden slid another three spots to No. 24.

Roddick wasn’t the only American male zooming up or down the charts.

Nineteen-year-old Ryan Harrison

jumped 21 spots to No. 73  thanks to his trip to the SAP semifinals.

Meanwhile, Sam Querry took a 24-spot dive to No. 99 after his first-round loss to Istomin at SAP. A year ago today, Querry was ranked 18th in the world and coming off a quarterfinal appearance at Memphis .
