While the other WTA Finals qualifiers are taking time to rest, recover and prepare for the tour’s prestigious season-ending championships, Zheng Qinwen continues to thrive during the Asian swing.

Zheng has won 9 of 11 matches across Beijing, Wuhan and Tokyo after today’s 7-5, 6-0 win at the Toray Pan Pacific Open.

This year’s Australian Open finalist and Olympic women’s singles gold medalist says she wants to work on new things and try to get to the net more.

Commendable stuff from the World No.7, who improved to 44-16 on the season with her win over the World No.57 day.

At Riyadh, where the WTA Finals commence on November 2nd, Zheng will be one of two debutantes, along with Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.

For now she’ll worry about Canada’s Leylah Fernandez, her quarterfinal opponent in Tokyo. She has lost two of three previous encounters with the former US Open finalist, but defeated her in Wuhan a few weeks ago, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0.

She says she’s feeling fit and ready for the challenge.

"After Wuhan, my physical and mental was really tired," Zheng said, according to the WTA. "But after almost a week off I came back again and I'm feeling more fresh. Also my body, compared to Wuhan, is much better.

"I'm just going to try and perform like all my matches I did before and let's see what's going to happen this year in Tokyo. The WTA Finals are really close, but first of all, I'm trying to keep the body healthy and then, talking about tennis, let's see how it goes here."

Here are how the other quarterfinals shape up in Tokyo:
