Frances Tiafoe is the top seed at an ATP event for the third time in his career at Almaty this week. The 26-year-old American is hoping to hold up his end of the bargain and claim his first title of 2024 in Kazakhstan. He'd also like to advance his bid for a last-second push to reach this year’s ATP Finals in Turin (he's currently 14th in the race).

So far so good for the World No.15, who defeated Dan Evans 6-7(10), 7-6(4), 6-3 behind 21 aces on Thursday to earn his 32nd win of 2024.

“He was playing really well,” Tiafoe said of the indoor battle with the former World No. 21. “In the first didn’t get broken so my serve was a big part of it. I served a lot of aces today, and I started coming into the net a little bit more, taking a little bit more risk, instead of just being patient in the rallies.”

Tiafoe improves to 6-3 lifetime against Evans and will face Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic in the quarterfinals.

“He’s got a good serve,” said Tiafoe. “I need to do some of the things I did today, serve well, take my time on serve, and be the aggressor.”

The quarterfinal lineup is now set in Almaty, with all four seeds reaching the last eight:
