The wait is over.
Denis Shapovalov took out Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic 6-4 6-4 to claim his second ATP title on Saturday in Belgrade – and first since 2019.
Playing in his first ATP final in over two years the former World No.10 received his trophy from Grand Slam king Novak Djokovic, who was in attendance for the final.
"It is not easy playing the young guys,” said of his win over the World No.156. “He served well and I was trying to do my best to get into his games and I got a bit lucky in the first set to break him. I hit a couple of lucky returns and kind of carried that momentum early into the second."
Shapovalov fired 13 aces and connected on 28 of 34 first-serve points as he became the first Canadian to win an ATP title in 2024. He will rise 22 spots in the ranking to No.56.
