Fabian Marozsan continues to shine at the biggest events in tennis. Today he took down Holger Rune and dropped just two games.
Ever since he stunned Carlos Alcaraz at the Rome Masters last spring, eyes have been on Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan. The 24-year-old World No.57 has not disappointed.
Marozsan breezed past World No.7 Holger Rune on Sunday in Miami, dropping just a pair of games as he waltzed to a 6-1 6-1 victory to take his place in the third round, where Alexei Popyrin awaits.
Marozsan has feasted on big-name players at the biggest events. He also took out Casper Ruud last autumn in Shanghai, and as he plays in just his fourth ATP Masters event, he improves his record to 12-3 in them.
He is also 3-1 lifetime against the Top 10.
After the match Marozsan was asked how he kept so calm during such a big moment, and he credited Roger Federer, saying that the Swiss legend taught him the importance of having a poker face on the tennis court.
Marozsan improves to 9-8 on the season, while Rune drops to 13-7.
The loss will sting Rune, particularly the manner in which he was never given a chance to impose his game against Marozsan. The 20-year-old Dane had hoped to build on his quarterfinal run at Indian Wells (loss to Medvedev) but will instead start preparing for the clay.
