Former World No.1 Karolina Pliskova is back in the winner’s circle for the first time in over four years.
The 78th-ranked Czech raced through the Transylvania Open draw without dropping a set, defeating hometown fave Ana Bogdan 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday in front of a packed house in Cluj-Napoca.
“I felt like it was the best week that I had in a long time,” 31-year-old Pliskova said.
The Czech claims her 11th hard court title on her tournament debut – seven of the ten sets she won by losing three or fewer games – to become the first Czech player to win the title in Cluj.
31-year-old Bogdan, ranked 65, drops to 0-2 lifetime in finals.
