34th-ranked Petra Martic upset Maria Sakkari of Greece, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday in Linz to reach her sixth career WTA final. The 32-year-old, who is coached by Michael Geserer, the former coach of Julia Goerges and Jennifer Brady, needed 2:32 to complete her comeback victory against the top-seeded Greek.
The former World No.14 overcame a 2-0 deficit in her head-to-head against Sakkari – she had lost to the Greek last month at United Cup, 6-3, 6-3.
Earlier on Saturday, Russia’s Anastasia Potapova powered past former Roland-Garros runner-up Marketa Vondrousova, 6-1, 6-7(4), 6-3, to reach her fifth WTA final.
The Russian hit 37 winners to 24 for Vondrousova – the 21-year-old will bid for her second WTA title on Sunday.
Martic and Potapova have split their two previous meetings on tour, with Martic taking a three-setter in 2019 at Wimbledon, while Potapova triumphed last season at Istanbul, en route to her maiden WTA title.
