It’s a sad say for tennis. No other way to put it, as the great Roger Federer has announced that he will officially retire after participating in the 2022 Laver Cup at London next weekend.
Just two weeks after Serena Williams played what will likely be her last competitive match, the 20-time Grand Slam champion took to social media to say thank his peers and—most important—his fans.
"Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt and now I must recognise when it's time to end my competitive career,” Federer said. "The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the Tour."
