Alexander Bublik eased past Andy Murray, 7-5, 6-4, to reach the semifinals at Newport for the third consecutive try, the Kazakh cranking 12 aces and breaking Murray’s serve three times to improve to 2-3 lifetime against Murray, and 2-2 in 2022.
Sixth-seeded Murray could only manage two aces and had his serve broken three times, including at 5-5 in the opening set, and at 3-3 in the second set, which were critical for Bublik, who converted his third match point to earn to improve to 8-2 at Newport and will face either Jason Kubler or James Duckworth in the semis.
Maxime Cressy and John Isner will contest an all-American semifinal in the top half.
Murray who drops to 117-26 lifetime on grass, will be rewarded for his trip to the quarterfinals with a return to the top-50 for the first time since 2017 next week.
