Quarterfinal Friday at the Argentina Open will be a decidedly Argentinian affair, as Diego Schwartzman rounded out a quartet from the home country on Thursday with his 7-6(2), 7-6(4) victory over Jaume Munar.
Schwartzman improves to 15-6 lifetime at his hometown tournament, and 6-3 on the young 2022 season.
The 29-year-old World No.15, who defeated Francisco Cerundolo for the title at Buenos Aires in 2021, will have a rematch with Cerundolo on Friday.
Cerundolo, a 23-year-old qualifier who earned seven wins last year to reach the final from qualifying, defeated Miomir Kecmanovic on Thursday, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Fabio Fognini (d. Pedro Martinez, 6-4, 7-6(5)) and Federico Delbonis (d. Pablo Andujar 6-4, 6-4) also reached the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The top four seeds – No.1 Casper Ruud, No.2 Schwartzman, No.3 Lorenzo Sonego and No.4 Fognini – are all still in play. Here is how the quarterfinals shape up.
