Elina Svitolina and Belinca Bencic advanced to the round of 16 at the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic on Wednesday.
Top-seeded Elina Svitolina and No.3-seeded Belinda Bencic pushed through to the round of 16 in early action on Wednesday at the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic.
Svitolina knocked off American Amanda Anisimova, 6-4, 6-3, to set a round of 16 clash with Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania. The Ukrainian improves to 38-17 on the season and 3-1 against Anisimova.
Third-seeded Bencic, this summer’s Olympic gold medal winner in Tokyo, rallied to defeat Australian qualifier Belinda Bencic, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 to set up a round of 16 clash with Tereza Martincova of the Czech Republic.
Fifth-seeded Elena Rybakina, No.12-seeded Veronika Kudermetova and 16-seeded Jil Teichmann also advanced on Wednesday at Chicago.
No.11-seeded Anett Kontaveit of Estonia, a winner of 13 of her last 14 matches including the title at Ostrava last week, pulled out with an injury to send Japanese qualifier Mai Hontama thorugh to the round of 16.
