Anett Kontaveit swept Marketa Vondrousova 6-3, 6-4 charging into her fourth final of the season in Moscow where she'll meet Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Anett Kontaveit continues riding the winning wave in Moscow.

A streaking Kontaveit swept Marketa Vondrousova 6-3, 6-4 charging into her fourth final of the season at the Kremlin Cup.

The 20th-ranked Kontaveit broke serve five times and won 16 of 25 points played on the Olympic silver medalist's second serve in a convincing one hour, 14-minute conquest.

The ninth-seeded Kontaveit will play for her third title of the year in tomorrow's final when she takes on Ekaterina Alexandrova, who ensured a Russian finalist in Moscow for the seventh straight year. Alexandrova held a 4-1 lead over Maria Sakkari in today's second semifinal when the third-seeded Greek retired due to illness.

"I'm not feeling well, Sakkari told Alexandrova after shaking hands to retire. 
 
Alexandrova is through to her third career final. She's the 11th Russian woman to contest the Moscow final and will play for her second career title, and first since 2020 Shenzhen, in tomorrow's final.

The 25-year-old Kontaveit has not dropped a set in Moscow in four tournament wins as she plays for another championship following title runs in Cleveland and Ostrava.



Kontaveit continues her tear scoring her 20th victory in her last 22 matches raising her 2021 record to 39-15.

The ninth-seeded Kontaveit dropped serve to start the match then reeled off five straight games for a 5-1 lead. Kontaveit served out the opening set.

The left-handed Vondrousova held at love for a 2-1 second-set lead. Kontaveit caught a higher gear running through four games in a row to take charge. Kontaveit avenged her opening-round Wimbledon loss to the 35th-ranked Czech, beating Vondrousova for the first time in three meetings.
