With each passing round the grinding baseline game of No.6-seeded Alexander Zverev looks more lethal.

The German, who notched a lopsided victory over Kei Nishikori in the round of 16, cracked down on first-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Tuesday by the identical scoreline—6-4, 6-1, 6-1—to reach the last four at Roland-Garros for the first time.

It marks the German's third career Grand Slam semifinal.

Zverev has been a tour de force on the terre battue in Paris, especially in the last three rounds, where he has dropped 21 games. After losing his first two sets of the tournament to compatriot Oscar Otte, Zverev has won 15 consecutive sets.

He will face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Daniil Medvedev, who will meet in the night session on Tuesday evening in Paris, next.

Whomever he faces, Zverev should come in with full confidence and energy. The German spent two hours and 49 minutes on the court in his round, but since then he has averaged two hours a contest with today’s thrashing of Davidovich Fokina lasting just one hour and 36 minutes.

Zvderev improves to 18-5 lifetime at Roland-Garros and 14-3 on clay in 2021. The Madrid champion cracked 24 winners against 16 unforced errors on Tuesday, and won 69 percent of his second-serve points against the Spaniard (20 of 29).
