Report: Djokovic Likely Out of ATP Cup
The Wimbledon semifinalist will spend the next 10 days in isolation, which means he's out of the early stages of the January 1-9th ATP Cup and may miss the entire 16-team event.
“Hi everyone, just wanted to update you that upon my arrival in Sydney, I tested positive for Covid,” Shapovalov posted on social media. “I am following all protocols, including isolation and letting the people who I’ve been in contact with know. “Right now I am experiencing minor symptoms and look forward to getting back on the court, when it is safe to do so.
“Thank you in advance for your support and wish you all a safe and happy holiday.”
Former US Open champion Dominic Thiem withdrew from the ATP Cup after catching a cold, though fortunately not the virus, in Abu Dhabi. Serbian media outlet Blic reports world No. 1 Novak Djokovic is 99 percent certain to withdraw from the ATP Cup as well.
Shapovalov is the latest start to test positive for COVID-19 after traveling to Abu Dhabi for the Mubadala Tennis Championship exhibition event earlier this month.
Rafael Nadal announced last week he tested positive for Coronavirus after returning home to Spain from Abu Dhabi.
