Mike and Bob Bryan may be riding off to the sunset but that doesn’t mean that the legendary twins aren’t going to be competitive while doing so.
The 41-year-old twins charged to their 119th team doubles title at the Delray Beach Open on Sunday, defeating Luke Bambridge and Ben McLachlan 3-6 7-5 10-5 for the title.
They Bryans won three match tiebreakers in succession to complete their title run, and rebounded from a set down in the semis (against Marcelo Arevalo and Johnny O’Mara) in their final two rounds.
“It feels really good, 20 years in a row winning a title, we won 119 might as well go for 120 now,” said Mike Bryan on court after the final. “We have some good months of tennis left.”
They Bryans claimed their sixth Delray Beach Open title with the victory and enjoy the home support.
“A lot of the same faces that watched us when we were young bucks are here when we’re old guys,” said Bob Bryan. “It’s nice to give back to them, they are always cheering for us. We were kind of behind the eight-ball all day and those voices kept pushing us ahead, kept us focused until the match was able to turn.”
According to ATP Media, the Bryan brothers have now won six tour-level events on six occasions as a team. The twins also own six team crowns in Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Monte-Carlo and the Australian Open.
