Now that she is firmly inside the Top 50, the breakout season of Karolina Muchova continues in Asia. The 23-year-old Czech, who reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals this summer, qualified for the last four of the Korea Open on Friday with a 6-3 6-3 victory over Australia’s Priscilla Hon.
Heading towards her first career Top 100 finish, World No.45 Muchova will look to reach her second final of the season, and her first on a hard court.
Muchova will face a player that has already racked up a hard court title in 2019—Wang Yafan—on Saturday. Wang, ranked 49, raced past Spain’s Paula Badosa on Friday, 6-3 6-1. The 25-year-old Chinese is angling for her first Top 50 year-end finish in 2019 as well—she ended last season ranked 73.
Wang, who won the Acapulco title in early March with a victory over Sofia Kenin, entered Seoul on a four-match losing streak.
Bronx champion Magda Linette will face second-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova in the other semifinal in Seoul. Linette defeated Kirsten Flipkens 6-2 6-3 while Alexandrova toppled American Kristie Ahn, 6-7(0) 6-4 6-4.
