The victory vaults Querrey into a round of 16 clash vs. 2014 Stockholm champion Grigor Dimitrov.
The second-seeded Dimitrov, who beat Roger Federer at the US Open last month, is 3-0 lifetime vs. Querrey.
While the 6'6" American owns all the components to be an indoor force—his booming serve and battering topspin forehand empower the world No. 50 to play first-strike tennis—Querrey has won just one of his 10 titles indoors and that came at the 2010 Memphis.
Pablo Carreno Busta was a 6-4, 6-3 victor over John Millman.
The fifth-seeded Spaniard will play Italian lucky loser Gianluca Mager who surprised Pablo Andujar 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. Mager broke serve six times in a one hour, 40-minute upset.
Yoshihito Nishioka saved 15 of 18 break points fending off Radu Albot 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. The left-handed Japanese meets third-seeded American Taylor Fritz next.
