Five of Goerges' eight wins have come in three sets, including three-set comeback wins over Misaki Doi, Sorana Cirstea and Puig this week.
The 26th-ranked German is into her third semifinal of the season.
Goerges, who defeated Bianca Andreescu to successfully defend her Auckland title in January, is playing for her third final of the season.
Next up for Goerges is a semifinal meeting with Elena Rybakina.
The third-seeded Rybakina won seven straight games to open a 6-4, 6-0 sweep of German Laura Siegemund.
Earlier, Jelena Ostapenko sustained her recent roll crushing qualifier Antonia Lottner 6-1, 6-1.
It was Ostapenko's seventh win in her last eight matches, including her run to last week's Linz final where she fell to 15-year-old phenom Coco Gauff.
The 2017 Roland Garros champion will play Anna Blinkova for a trip to her second straight final.
The eighth-seeded Russian held a 6-3, 1-0 lead when quarterfinal opponent Margarita Gasparyan retired. The 21-year-old Blinkova has permitted just eight games reaching her second Tour-level semifinal of the season.
