A first main draw appearance at San Jose has been fruitful for World No.10 Aryna Sabalenka.
The Belarusian rallied into her second final of 2019 with a 6-4 6-3 win over Donna Vekic on Saturday to book a final clash with China’s Zheng Saisai.
Sabalenka improved to 18-7 on hardcourts this season. She broke Vekic six times on 13 opportunities and won 20 of 25 second-serve return points.
"I'm done with expectations. Every match, and I'm just going there and trying to fight for each point, no matter what. Don't think about anything else: just this ball, this point, this game, this set and this match," Sabalenka said, according to WTATennis.com. "I think my game is improving. I had a bad period with my serving game, but right now I'm feeling better. I can see that I'm getting consistent on the court.”
China’s Zheng won Saturday’s first semi-final by taking out last year’s runner-up Maria Sakkari, 7-6(5) 6-2.
The unseeded Zheng entered the week ranked 55 and has defeated three seeded players en route to the final.
