Italy’s Camila Giorgi broke open a close match half way through the first set and reeled off eight consecutive games on her way to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova to claim the Upper Austria Ladies Linz title on Sunday.
The fifth-seeded, 32nd-ranked Italian claims her second WTA title and will rise to No.26 in the world as a result of her victory, which would mark a career high.
Former World No.69 Alexandrova will jump back inside the Top 100 to around 86 thanks to her runner-up performance. She qualified for the event and defeated six players ranked higher than her to make it all the way to her first career final.
Giorgi never faced a break point and dropped only three first-serve points and just lost nine points on serve over all during the 59-minute encounter.
The pair were on serve through seven games but the Italian took over from there, winning nine of the final ten games.
Giorgi won 17 of 23 second-serve return points and broke four times on six opportunities.
