France’s Lucas Pouille has caught fire in February after a slow start to the season. The 24-year-old improves to 10-3 on the season with a takedown of Yuichi Sugita in Dubai. After winning the Montpellier title, Pouille reached the final at Marseille last week and is into the semis at Dubai.

With his won over Guido Pella in Sao Paulo, 22-year-old Nicolas Jarry has now reached quarterfinals at three straight events in South America. Jarry has won 9 of 11 matches since the Australian Open. The Chilean enters this week at a career-high ranking of 73, and is poised to go higher.

Number of 500-level ATP semifinals reached by Malek Jaziri after today. The Tunisian edged past Stefanos Tsitsipas, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on Thursday to set a semifinal with Roberto Bautista Agut.

Consecutive wins at Sao Paulo by three-time defending champion Pablo Cuevas. The Uruguayan is into the quarterfinals after notching a 6-4, 7-6(4) win over Sebastian Ofner. Cuevas, who won 32 of 35 first-serve points in the match, will face Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer next.
After losing at Sao Paulo in 2014 to Horacia Zeballos, Cuevas has won 14 in a row including six in three sets.
