Germany’s Julia Goerges defeated Romania’s Alexandra Dulgheru, 7-5, 7-5, to reach the semifinals of the BRD Bucharest Open on Friday. Goerges will bid for her second final of 2017 on Saturday when she meets another Romanian, Ana Bogdan in the semifinal.
24-year-old Bogdan joins compatriot Irina-Camelia Begu in the last four by notching a 6-1, 6-3 victory over last year’s runner-up, top-seeded Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia.
The victory marks Bogdan’s first Top 20 win and second consecutive Top 50 win after losing her first seven.
Begu defeated France’s Pauline Parmentier, 7-5, 6-0 to set up a semifinal with No.2-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro.
None of the four semifinalists have won an ATP title in 2017.
