No. 2-seeded Jankovic won her third straight against Lisicki and improved to 6-1 against the German lifetime, breaking five times on ten opportunities to book a semifinal clash with No. 3-seeded Ana Konjuh.
Konjuh, who reached her first career Grand Slam quarterfinal at this year’s U.S. Open, knocked off American Jennifer Brady, 6-4, 7-5, dropping just three of 31 first-serve points to cruise to her 19th tour-level victory of the season and her seventh in eight matches.
Jankovic defeated Konjuh in their only previous meeting this summer in Mallorca on grass.
The other semifinal in Guangzhou will feature Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit and Ukranian Lesia Tsurenko.
