Muguruza Not Hanging Head after Brilliant Showing During Hardcourt Summer
Garbiñe Muguruza
wasn’t able to win back-to-back majors at New York, but the Spaniard isn’t feeling sorry for herself after an incredible summer that saw her win her second major title and make a serious push for the WTA’s top ranking. Muguruza lost in straight sets to an on-fire

on Day 7 at New York, but the 23-year-old is happy with her compete lever and eager to finish the 2017 season in style.

“I'm happy,” she told reporters. “I'm very happy with the tournament. Even though today didn't go my way, I didn't feel I did something wrong out there. I think she played very good. We all know she can play, finding the incredible shots and serve.”
Muguruza, who has gone 19-3 since the start of Wimbledon, is pleased that she was able to back up her Wimbledon title with a strong push on the North American hardcourts.
She also reached the second week at the U.S. Open for the first time in her career—another reason to feel good.
“Overall it's a very good tournament for me,” she said. Not only a tournament, but the summer in general. I feel very happy. This match is just a match, but I'm happy with all the period that I've been playing.”
What’s next for Muguruza? After a quick refresh she’ll set her sight on the Asian swing, and hopefully the WTA Finals in Singapore (she entered the U.S. holding the top spot in the Road to Singapore Standings).
“I'm going to keep doing the same thing,” she said. “I'm happy that we have now the last swing in Asia, which like you said I did good results. I look forward to go there and play my tournaments. I want to keep pushing myself to finish the year in a great way, keep this up. That puts me in a good spot.”
