Second Serve

We know about Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s athleticism, his forehand, his serve and his touch at the net. But not many fans know about Tsonga’s one-handed backhand. That’s probably because the Frenchman doesn’t hit a one-hander. He’s a two-handed guy, but when inspiration hits, Tsonga can do some amazing stuff with one hand.

Here Tsonga huts a gorgeous curling backhand on the dead sprint against Aussie James Duckworth during his 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

After the match Tsonga told reporters that he’s feeling as good as he as in a while. “I feel great physically,” he said. “That's the most important for me. Last couple of months I had few little things that make me play bad. Today I cross fingers. I hope it's going to continue in this way, but I'm feeling good.”

The ninth-seeded Frenchman will face Kevin Anderson in the third round on Friday. The two-time quarterfinalist hopes he can go further than ever before in New York this year.

“The expectation is of course to try to do as good as I did in the past, and even better, of course, if I can,” he said.
